The job

To work across various locations around the UK, visited by the MRI mobile fleet, supporting the MRI Mobile Superintendent Radiographer and working with all stakeholders to promote the development of mobile clinical imaging services with hospital sites and partner organisations within the NHS and private sector in line with the strategic objectives of the Charity. 

Assist onsite set up of new mobile services ensuring the delivery of high-quality mobile MRI scanning services and ensure an integrated clinical service is maintained as directed by the MRI Mobile Superintendent and Operations Manager. 

Supervise the day-to-day smooth running of the MRI mobile scanning lists in accordance with best practice and in a manner that meets professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements.  
 
Provide training and safety education to all who work on the mobiles at client sites.

Plan and set standards to direct department goals in accordance with Cobalt and legislative quality assurance programmes, undertake audit of performance against departmental and corporate targets and action improvements. 

This is a hybrid leadership role with a clinical commitment undertaking scanning sessions on the mobile MRI services and an administrative role supporting the MRI Mobile Superintendent Radiographer with site set up, compliance and management of workforce appraisal, performance and training. (Approx 80% clinical to 20% administrative split) 

This role is considered full time based on 37.5 hours per week and worked across seven days, between Mon-Sun to ensure the Lead Radiographer is available to support staff across the week. Flexible working opportunities are available at Cobalt and part time contracts may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Deputise for the MRI Mobile Superintendent Radiographer in their absence. 
  • Maintain effective daily communication with the MRI Mobile Superintendent Radiographer and Operations Manager to ensure the smooth running of the mobile services at various client sites. 
  • Ensure strong communication across medical staff and non-medical staff at all sites to create an efficient work environment. 
  • Assist with quality standards including QSI (Quality Standard for Imaging) and ISO accreditations on mobile services. 
  • Assist the Director of Clinical Operations in carrying out their legal duties as registered CQC (Care Quality Commission) Manager for the mobile services. 
  • To support the service during external visits by Trust or industry stakeholders including CQC and QSI inspectors. 
  • Responsible for keeping open communication pathways with line managers regarding the service. 
  • Ensure the mobile services operate to the highest level of clinical and operational governance. Develop and introduce policy, procedures and processes collaboratively with line managers and stakeholders within the Trust relevant to the service, ensuring continuous improvement and patient experience. 
  • Liaise with multidisciplinary teams in area of work and respond to the clinical requests from Consultant Radiologists in accordance with agreed protocols. 
  • Responsible for the organisation and smooth running of day-to-day scanning lists. 
  • Responsible for all staff induction training at the mobile locations, MRI safety awareness training, cannulation and administration of contrast agents, maintenance of training records and successful completion of competency frameworks for all Cobalt/non-Cobalt staff working on the mobile services.
  • Work with line managers to maintain appropriate staffing levels and skill mix as appropriate to maintain adequate service provision in the absence of the MRI Superintendent Radiographer and Operations Manager. 
  • Undertake appraisal and performance management of mobile radiographers and clinical imaging assistants, set objectives and personal development plans. 
  • Support line managers in the selection, interview and recruitment of prospective staff. 
  • Participate in the on-call rota for MRI mobile/relocatable logistics, breakdowns and staffing. 

Skills and experience

  • HCPC registration 
  • DCR or BSc in Radiography 
  • Post Graduate qualification in CT, MRI or PET/CT or equivalent is desirable. 
  • Demonstrable experience in MRI covering all body areas, techniques and contrast media management at a senior level. 
  • An in-depth knowledge of theoretical and clinical MRI is essential.  
  • Experience of delivering clinical diagnostic services including the development and implementation of processes and pathways to improve patient and staff experience. 
  • Experience of managing clinical teams and their performance is essential
  • High level of professionalism and technical standard of work compliant with relevant Codes of Practice.

There will be a desire to support the development of staff and students, particularly supporting education programmes with the objective to implement an integrated and effective workforce.
